Armilla Game Design Video:
Armilla is a 3rd person puzzle adventure game, the player must make their way through the canyon they have found themselves in, overcoming obstacles and solving puzzles a long the way. Their begins to reveal more about this strange place.
The mechanics combine traditional and tested climbing and grappling, with unique platform mechanics, where the world and objects within it move as you do.
Armilla is a third year university project where the player faces and experience which takes them through a strange and warped world outside of time.
Please Note: The game is currently a work-in-progress, and content will be updated once the game is complete.
Level Design:
A large part of my design in this project was to create, implement and test level designs. This included considering many aspects and take the level from the on-paper design sketches to, in a collaborative effort, create a full 3D working level.
The level is designed to teach and guide the player, and to then present to use what they have learned in an interesting way to progress through an area, with a balance between exploration and puzzle solving.
Mechanics Design:
It was my job to decide which mechanics would be included in the game. Due to time constraints I limited this to 3 mechanics. The mechanics use what has been tested before, however with some unique elements. The player must climb small ledges, use their grapple hook to climb up high or use their grapple hook in order to interact with the environment and create the path they need to progress.
A unique addition is to walk on certain platforms to control aspects of the environment, such as position of platforms or elements blocking the path, the player must use this in order to create and clear the path ahead.
Game Engine and Code:
As part of implementing and testing these levels I coded different mechanics, some final and others place holder.
